The Paris Motor Show hosted the Citroen DS launch. The DS stood out among its competitors due to its single-spoke steering wheel, large glove compartment and wide single-spoke steering wheels. The DS quickly became popular, with 800 bookings in its first hour and more than 79,000 during the whole show. The Citroen DS cost 940,000 Francs. Before taking delivery, buyers had to make a deposit in the amount of 80,000 Francs.

Citroen

Citroen's flagship sedan, the DS (design code DS), was introduced in 1973. It was powered with a 2.3-liter engine, which produced 115 horsepower carbureted and 128 HP when equipped with fuel injection. The car's performance was so impressive that the French speed limit of 128 mph (118 mph) was only a guideline. Citroen developed a replacement for DS in the 1970s. They developed Project L, which featured more aerodynamic styling and shared visual cues with the mid-level GS. Citroen opted against making another car before the DS was no longer available.

DS Hydropneumatic suspension

1955 was the first year that the Citroen DS Hydropneumatic suspension made its debut. Paul Mages developed this suspension system. It includes high-pressure pipework combined with hydraulic springs and independent rear support. The hydraulic suspension system would eventually be restricted to high-end cars like the Mercedes-Benz E-Class or Audi TT. By the late 1950s it was being used for many other models.

FAQ

How long is an automotive mechanic apprenticeship

An automotive mechanic apprenticeship takes around three years to complete. The apprenticeship includes two years studying at school and two more as an apprentice. The first year is dedicated to learning the theory and practical skills of the trade. You'll also learn the safe and efficient use of tools during this first year. After you have completed the first year of training, you will be able to spend an additional year on-the job learning different trades. These years will offer you the opportunity to attend formal classes.

The last year of your program will be spent earning qualifications and becoming certified. These include NVQs. They are awarded after passing exams on specific topics within the industry. In addition, there are HNCs (Higher National Certificates) that cover general subjects such as management, business administration, and customer service. City & Guilds certificates may be available for those who are interested in becoming qualified in specific trades.

What do I need to know about car mechanics?

To be an auto mechanic, you don't have to know much about cars. You only need to know how to fix them. That's why most people start doing jobs like fitting brake pads or changing tires before progressing to more complex repairs.

You will need to understand written instructions, read diagrams and follow the basic rules of good practices. It is also important to know how to determine if parts are damaged or need to be replaced.

You should not attempt to fix vehicles without proper training and guidance. This is especially important if you work with expensive parts such as transmissions or engines.

Even though you won’t need to know much more about cars, you will still need to have an in-depth understanding of mechanics and physics. This involves understanding how engines work and how brakes work.

It's also worth noting that you'll need to be prepared to deal with all sorts of situations. For instance, you might find yourself in charge of a vehicle that has been in a serious accident. You'll also need experience dealing with breakdowns and accidents.

You must also be willing to learn quickly. It is important to be able both to diagnose problems and perform simple maintenance tasks, such as tightening nuts.

What are the requirements of an auto technician?

You must have high school, or GED, and be able to read and write well in English and math. Additionally, you will need to be proficient in reading and writing. After passing a written test, you will need to complete a series of practical tests before you are allowed to begin working.

Is it worthwhile to become a mechanic?

This question is dependent on your life goals. If you are looking to make money, then yes. But if meaning and purpose is what you seek, then no.

You don't need to be a mechanic if you don't know how. It won't make you wealthy. You won't become famous. And it's unlikely to change your life.

You'd need to spend years learning how everything works. This would mean that you would have to pay someone else for your car's repair. That's why most people don't bother doing it at all. They find something better.

To sum up, if you want to earn lots of money then go ahead. You can't live a meaningful existence if your goal is to make a living in the mechanic's business.

How To

How to guard yourself against auto mechanic scams

Scamming by auto mechanics can be a serious problem. The average American spends $1,500 a year on vehicle repairs. This is a huge opportunity for people to take advantage of it. But, knowing what to look for can help you avoid falling prey to scammers. Here are some tips to help you spot a scammer before they get their hands on your money.

  1. Never pay upfront. It's a scam to ask for payment upfront. After work is done, you should always ask for payment. If you have any doubts about whether something is legit, contact the Better Business Bureau (BBB), at 1-888-322-8138. They will give you guidance on what to do next.
  2. Ask for references. Contacting previous customers is the best way to make sure you are dealing with a reliable service provider. Online reviews are also a great way to verify the service provider's reputation. It's important that any company you deal is reputable.
  3. Do background checks. You should never hire anyone without doing a background check. To check if complaints have been filed against the business, visit the BBB site. Also, verify that the vehicle's license plate number belongs to the business owner.
  4. Do not be afraid to leave. Sometimes, even though a business may appear legitimate, they can try to make you pay too much. If you feel that you have been exploited, don't be afraid to walk away. There are plenty of other businesses available to you.
  5. Be wary of "free" services. There are many companies that offer free inspections and estimates. These companies often charge high fees for additional services. Be sure to ask about additional fees before signing anything.
  6. Avoid being pressured. If a company offers a great deal, they may think they have the right to charge you less. It's possible that you have been pressured into buying something.
  7. Quality products are important. High-quality parts are important when you're looking for a repair place. You shouldn't use cheap brake pads if you need them. You should instead go to a shop that is specialized in brakes.
  8. Get multiple quotes. It is important to compare prices across shops. If you do this, you will have a greater chance of getting a fair deal.
  9. Keep records. It's important to keep track of all the details surrounding your repair. This includes receipts, invoices and warranties. Any phone numbers or addresses you receive should be noted.
  10. Keep updated
